We likely all have a favourite scent. That of a beautiful rose. New mown grass. Freshly baked bread. The sea.
Fragrance can inspire, connect us to time, place, experience, a person. It lingers in memory long after the initial impact and transports us back whenever we smell it.
Then there’s the scent we choose to wear. Selected consciously, it becomes our signature.
Isn’t purpose like that too?
At a whole other level our purpose is our unique fragrance, our individual signature.
Where we’ve found that purpose and are living it, its signature is evident to us and others. Its fragrant note is with us consistently, in all we do, enabling us to radiate joyfully and contribute powerfully to a better world.
Purpose of a higher order is the perfume of organisations too. It pervades every choice made and every path taken. Inspiring people to serve the attainment of goals beyond self-interest, to do what’s right for the common good.
If we are going to create that better world we yearn for isn’t it time for each of us to become our own master perfumier?
